The Dutch have a special word to describe “cosiness”, “comfort”, but it’s also something that goes a little beyond that. “Gezellig”. Pronounced correctly, it kinda sounds like you’re clearing your throat, but this blog explores its meaning by documenting experiences that make life richer and deeper; through food, family, and the making of a home.

House for sale in Almonte, Ontario

by amanda on October 14, 2013

Got a chance to take a short jaunt (heh) to Ottawa last weekend. 8 or so hours later, we arrived at our dear friend’s place in Almonte, a sweet little town about 55 kms west of Ottawa. I always love coming here; the downtown is small but packs a whole lotta punch. The town is home to many artists and creatives; and this becomes obvious after even just spending a few hours here. Really, go on; I double-dare you.

Our friends have lived here over 5 years now; and last year they jumped on an opportunity to buy a home that was foreclosed on their street. They got a great deal on it, but of course, ain’t no such thing as a free lunch. The entire house needed a great deal of work. So, they rolled up their sleeves and got to it.

Over many months they carefully worked their way through each room, including reconstructing the front porch. With the hubby’s elbow grease and the wife’s awesome vision, plus a little help from their friends, the result is truly spectacular.

They’ve listed the house for sale here.

Nov 2013 Update: House has been sold! Congrats guys!
