WHY GEZELLIG?

The Dutch have a special word to describe “cosiness”, “comfort”, but it’s also something that goes a little beyond that. “Gezellig”. Pronounced correctly, it kinda sounds like you’re clearing your throat, but this blog explores its meaning by documenting experiences that make life richer and deeper; through food, family, and the making of a home.

All-natural beauty

by amanda on February 23, 2014

Dialling back a few months: my daughter is naturally a very generous person [insert chest puffed out with pride]. Her most favourite thing about Christmas was the gifts she gave. This year was particularly special because they were homemade – and I’m not talking a reindeer made out of construction paper.
PC076912With the money she’s been making selling eggs, she purchased a DIY beauty products book, with lots of intriguing recipes. Then with some help from Pa, and two curious onlookers, she made lip balms and handcream using all natural ingredients.
PC076903The ingredients were purchased from Saffire Blue, a local company, but they sell everything online. They even sold the packaging, so it was easy to coordinate everything she needed.

The final product turned out wonderfully. She had as much fun creating her own labels as she did making the balm. Chip off the ol’ block, I guess (heh).

We love love love the lip balm and the cream! Both Joe and I use it every night! Must get my hands on that book, looks like a good one 🙂

Hey there, I’m with ya – I use the lip balm every day! And the texture of the skin cream is luxurious – thick and creamy but somehow not greasy. I’ll pass on the compliments to the “chef”…

This stuff is amazing! I think the skin cream is my favourite. Perfect gift for this long, dry winter. My niece rocks!

Thanks Sarah – she’s pretty pleased with the feedback. 🙂
