WHY GEZELLIG?

The Dutch have a special word to describe “cosiness”, “comfort”, but it’s also something that goes a little beyond that. “Gezellig”. Pronounced correctly, it kinda sounds like you’re clearing your throat, but this blog explores its meaning by documenting experiences that make life richer and deeper; through food, family, and the making of a home.

Common Ground Farm’s 15 minutes of fame

So a cool side project – hubby’s produce was asked to make an appearance on a Vice show that falls under their “Munchies” series. The show is called “Keep It Canada“, starring the brazen and hilarious chef Matty Matheson. Season Two is about Matty travelling to all the places in Canada which shaped his career, which includes his current position as executive chef at Parts and Labour. This particular episode was partly being shot at his parent’s place in Dorchester. I accompanied the vegetables to the shooting of the show, mainly to see how a such an endeavour works…

Matty Matheson cooks with Common Ground Farm Vegetables
It was a beautiful day for cooking outside. Matty was at the BBQ for a good part of it; he did a bang up job of the beef and pork that were supplied by local farmers. His sidekick was much more than just a sous-chef; he’s the head catering chef at Parts and Labour in Toronto. He was pretty excited at the prospect of all the veggies and got straight to work. I snapped some pics for our farm’s social media channels, and er, as a side bonus, got to sample some pretty fabulous food.
