WHY GEZELLIG?

The Dutch have a special word to describe “cosiness”, “comfort”, but it’s also something that goes a little beyond that. “Gezellig”. Pronounced correctly, it kinda sounds like you’re clearing your throat, but this blog explores its meaning by documenting experiences that make life richer and deeper; through food, family, and the making of a home.

Art Gallery Exhibit

So the thing about this little side of the world is the amazing things that are happening in the culinary scene. We have crazy talented chefs, producers, coffee roasters, and so much more going on – it’s surprising that it’s not better known! Truthfully, I like it better this way, as we get to enjoy all that St. Thomas & area has to offer without having to share it with anyone.

I think the owners of Illumine Gallery agree. Christie Brown, one of the owners, put out a call for submissions for artwork relating to the topic “Feast”. I approached her with the idea of photographs of our little farm that I normally take for social media. And she actually said yes! She has been very helpful in explaining to me what it really means to have your artwork exhibited for purchase. I’ve been taking these shots mainly for photojournalistic and marketing purposes, but people are looking for interesting colours and perspectives when they want something to hang on their own walls. So with lots of Christie’s help, I produced 6 items that I will be dropping off tomorrow (eek) at the gallery in time for the opening night Nov 4.

…I’ll leave my final selection for you to visit personally when you go to the gallery (heh). In the meantime, here are a few that didn’t make the cut.
