WHY GEZELLIG?

The Dutch have a special word to describe “cosiness”, “comfort”, but it’s also something that goes a little beyond that. “Gezellig”. Pronounced correctly, it kinda sounds like you’re clearing your throat, but this blog explores its meaning by documenting experiences that make life richer and deeper; through food, family, and the making of a home.

Just a quick post to show you a fun project I helped out with back in January. A friend of mine, Becky Ong, decided to surprise another friend, Kim Parker, by do a super quick reno of her basement while she was away. The basement held very little charm; it’s sole decorative accents being a […]

Living Room revisited

27.01.2017

The thing about our living room, is, it “looks” comfortable, but the reality is so, so different. I mean, the colours and textures are all there, but our actual seating leaves A LOT to be desired. This picture below has our old seating, which is now ripped to shreds by various kids and has been […]

Pattern me pretty

15.11.2016

So, I’m a HUGE sucker for surface pattern design. And I’m coming across more and more absolutely stunning ones lately so I thought it high time to share some with you. Some of these, I realize, might induce headaches in some people but to me, you can always, always have more colour. Always. Let’s start […]

How to Guide: Vintage shopping

19.07.2016

I’ve been getting this question a lot recently: where do you get your vintage finds, anyway? The question certainly gave me pause.   Okay! So I feel like it’s time I spill the beans: I’m for hire and I don’t cost a cent. 🙂 Let me rephrase: I saw a chance to 1) try out a new career and 2) feed my soul and restlessness at the same time and jumped on it. It means seeing less of […]

New adventures for 2016

25.01.2016

Oh boy oh boy oh boy. Things are about to get pretty exciting over here. Can’t say a lot more; and I hate being one of “those people” who say mysterious things and then drop it altogether, but for now, this will have to do. What I “can” say is this. And this. And this.

Design Trends: Out with the Owls, in with the ?

15.12.2015

Have you noticed that even animals can be trendy? For instance, way back when, dragonflies were “the thing”. Personally I still love their delicate look, but you don’t exactly see anyone getting tattoos of them anymore, do you? Then we started putting birds on it: That trend seemed to hold for a long while: Next […]

Kitchen Reno Part Two

19.11.2015

Although I still love love love our kitchen, my loyalty stops at the desk area. We’ve had a pathetic excuse for a “drop zone/family office” for 3 years now. See below. The pile of junk is a never-ending struggle, and I realize this will never change. However, I am keen to at least get some […]
